I am using a 2.4Ghz Intel core 2 Duo Mac Mini connected to my Aiport Extreme Wireless N network without any problems at all. I recently decided to use a cable connection to the Mac Mini due to congestion issues on the woreless network not being fast enough. I connected a cable to the Ethernet port and nothing happened. I looked in the system preferences and found that (under Networking) when WiFi is on it shows 'Ethernet Connected' symbol and shows 'WIFI Off', so this was was the first strange issue. When I switched off the 'Ethernet' I lost all connection to the network as is the cable wasnt even plugged in. I looked at Apple Profiler and found that the Ethernet interface seemed to be reporting correctly (see below) but I cannot figure out what is wrong. Anyone have any suggestions on how to test the interface and see if it working.

Before anyone suggests it, yes the cable is working and has been tested (Cat6). Thanks BDAqua but that didnt make any difference. In the top of the list I now have Ethernet showing green indicator and Connected.

To the left of this panel in rhe Status area it shows Wifi as turned on and the Wifi Controls. Under Ethernet I have the second service which is WiFi which is shown with a red indictor and is off. The status panel to the left of it shows the correct WiFI controls as it should do (although off). The Mini is being run over WiFi despite System Preferences saying it is running on Ethernet (how can that happen).
