Lion's built in VNC server works just fine, they just changed the authentication process and many clients are no-longer capable of logging on, especially ones that haven't been updated since Lion came out or where Mac compatibility is a low priority. In my experience, the ones that haven't been updated for Lion support by now usually didn't work very well with OS X anyway (poor system integration). These days there are plenty of Lion compatible VNC clients available. I use it all the time with an iPad app I found, and it works great. The one I bought works: Remotix.

Aug 8, 2011 - Since no other VNC servers seem to work with OS X Lion so far, I have enabled Screen Sharing on a Mac Mini. I can connect with UltraVNC. Apr 8, 2012 - An alternative VNC Server could be RealVNC, an alternative to VNC itself could be Team Viewer it works fine on Lion and it is free for moderate.

Apple's own Screen Sharing (free for home/small business use) and Apple Remote Desktop (expensive/for enterprise) obviously both work. Six or seven other free/cheap iOS apps I tried before settling on Remotix all worked. I only ever run Windows in a virtual machine, so I haven't tested any there.

I didn't find any app that doesn't work, though they all did have a 'mac' authentication type. My understanding is VNC is a loose standard, that doesn't really define an authentication protocol. These days Apple has one that's a bit different from windows. – Apr 8 '12 at 21:38 •.

Vnc Server For Mac Os 10.7

Click to expand. The thread starter wanted a VNC viewer, not a server, although OSXvnc is a great server. I'd go for Chicken of the VNC as well, but it's not that great as it lacks some of the more advanced features of VNC clients on other OSs, i.e.

TightVNC support, JPEG compression (great for low bandwidth connections) and the ability to scale the image down (great for viewing large screens on a laptop). Still, its the best available on OSX AFAIK, unless you want to run the VNC viewer under X11. Logmein.com This is awesome. I've used Chicken of the VNC and JollysfastVNC but have two main issues with them both - the hassle of having to forward ports and the speed - on a fast connection, directly working on a remote machine is painful - far too much lag. So I used Cyberduck to send files to myself before working locally and re-sending back to the remote machine. Then per chance, I stumbled upon.

Compared to the other two, it screams! I can work full screen, directly on my work iMac from my home iMac and, apart from *slight* lag and the fact that I'm working in 8-bit colour, it's brilliant. It even recognises 2-screen systems. I use the free version which just enables direct contact, but there are paid for versions which add direct clipboard access and other premium items I don't really need.
